Practice with “fakemoney” moast sites let you do that. Wait for a good hand try to read a book about different hands first. Dont trust only your own theories about a “good hand”. A low pair for example is NOTHING. Remember you are not alone at the table there are many others that will have good hands..
Always count in the possibility that someone else at the table might have a better hand that you.
If you are to aggressive you can easily scare away other players, play it cool..
Drop out straight away if you dont have a really good hand
The problem with many beginners is that they dont tend to think about what hands the other players at the table might have. Its very easy to stare yourself blind on your own cards..
Play poker on different levels.
I have played with “fake” money on Yahoos pokersite and there you can choose beetwen beginner or pro. Its fun to alternate with different levels. And you can learn a lot by playing against many people plus there its quite a few caracters out there.
Study your copetition, since online poker is very fast you have to look out for what the other players is doing. If they raise all the time it might be a good idea to put your cards down because they might have a really good hand if they are not trying to bluff you of course.
Try to think about the possibility that the other players at the table have better cards that you do. The chances they do is very high.
When the first 3 cards has been layed out make your decision about staying in. Mostly its better to quit your hand if the first 3 cards isnt very good.
Poker is all about skill and a little bit of luck. Read pokerbooks to learn more. Watch how other people play, that the best way to learn how to leave a table while you are still winning..
Look at the game as something you have to learn while doing it. Sometimes its up and sometimes its down. Give it a rest now and then. You wont become rich in one day.
Practice, practice, practice and practice thats why Yahoo and many other sites gives you the chance to play with “fake” money..
Be aggressive sometimes and not so aggressive other times. Try not to be predictible.. Try not to bluff to often.
Try to keep not about other players that are good and of the one who are not so good so you will remember who to watch out for.
That will give you the chance to get on the same table as the not so good players and hopefully win some money.

How is a good hand supposed to look?
Nothing: The player with the highest card winns. If two players has the same highest card you count the seccond highest card and so on.
One pair: If two players has the same value pair you count the highest sidecard.
Two pairs: The player with the highest value pairs winns.
Triss: The highest triss winns.
Straight: Five cards in a ladder with different colours. The player with the highest straight winns. The ace can be used as both highest or lowest card in a straight.
Flush: Five cards in the same colour. If two players have a flush the player with the highest card in the flush winns.
Full house: One triss and one pair. A higher triss beats a lower if two players have a full house.
Fourth: Four cards of the same value, eg four Jacks.
Straight flush: A ladder where all cards are the same colour.
Royal straight flush: The ultimate kick. A ladder from ace to ten in the same colour. What colour is not important.
